3 DIY Projects to Decorate your Home for the Holidays
The holiday season is a time to relax, grow closer to family and friends, and celebrate the finer things in life. With the right decorations, your home can give off that warm, welcoming holiday vibe that makes everyone feel comfortable and at-ease. And while store-bought decorations do the job, homemade ones are more personalized — and the process of making them gets you into the holiday spirit! The following are three fun DIY projects to decorate your home for the holidays.
You can buy a simple pine wreath at most craft stores. Find one that is properly sized for your front door, and then purchase some accessories to decorate it. Metal jingle bells, metallic ribbons tied into bows, and clusters of plastic holly berries all look lovely. You could also make a fruit-filled wreath by using hot glue to attach various pieces of plastic fruit to the wreath branches. To make a snowy-looking wreath, spray the pine branches lightly with white spray paint before adding your decorations.
Cinnamon Stick Candles
Cinnamon is a classic holiday scent, and homemade cinnamon stick candles can fill your home with beauty and a relaxing aroma. Start with a plain vanilla, cinnamon, or caramel scented candle that's about 3 inches tall and 2 or 3 inches wide. Use a hot glue gun to attach cinnamon sticks around the outside of the candle, lining up the bottoms of each cinnamon stick with the bottom of the candle so the finished product sits flat. Finish the project by tying a red or green ribbon around the whole candle. When you light the candle, the flame will warm the cinnamon sticks just slightly, so their aroma mixes with that of the candle.
Holly Door Hangers
Hanging some holly above each door frame will give your whole home a festive vibe. Start with long strands of wire, and twist the wire around some sprigs of holly to create a long garland. You can also use hot glue to attach some other festive accents, like red plastic beads or some bows. Mount a temporary plastic hook on either side of the door frame, and twist the wire around the hooks. When the holidays are over, you can remove the hooks without leaving a trace.
